The best bit of Shipley Country Park is Mapperley Reservoir. Mature woodland around the reservoir which was constructed to serve the Nutbrook Canal, whereas the rest of the park is mainly reclaimed coal pits (except for the area around the old Shipley Hall).
The other really good thing about the Mapperley Reservoir area is that it is furthest away from the Visitor Centre and main car park, which means that lots of visitors to the park never venture this far! It does have its own car park (pay and display), but that is at the end of a long dead-end road, so only people that know about it use it.
This is a larger than average "little bridge", but still only for walkers. The brook which it spans is often dry, but in winter it can be full to overflowing at times!
The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire.
