Notre-Dame-La-Principale
L'édifice médiéval a été mentionné pour la première fois au 11e siècle.
L’édifice religieux est de style roman, il est déjà utilisé dès le XIIIe siècle.
Le bâtiment est transformé, notamment la nef, au XVIe siècle,
puis en 1758 par Jean-Baptiste II Péru.
Le clocher prend sa place peu après.
Le chœur disparait après la Révolution française.
La confrérie des Pénitents blancs d'Avignon, fondé en 1527,
ne s'installe dans cet édifice religieux que sous la Restauration.
Il y resteront jusqu'en 1948, date où cette confrérie s’éteint.
Il y a eu jusqu'à sept confréries de pénitents à Avignon :
gris, noirs florentins, blancs, bleus, violets, noirs de la Miséricorde, rouge.
Sous l'ancien régime, les pénitents blancs se réunissaient dans l'enclos de Dominicains.
La chapelle est l'un des lieux de représentation du Festival d'Avignon depuis les années 1960, avec la programmation de Théâtre Ouvert.
La salle compte 164 places.

Notre-Dame-La-Principale
The medieval building was first mentioned in the 11th century.
The religious building is in Romanesque style, it was already used from the 13th century.
The building was transformed, notably the nave, in the 16th century,
then in 1758 by Jean-Baptiste II Péru.
The bell tower takes its place soon after.
The choir disappears after the French Revolution.
The brotherhood of the White Penitents of Avignon, founded in 1527,
moved into this religious building only under the Restoration.
They remained there until 1948, when this brotherhood died.
There have been up to seven brotherhoods of penitents in Avignon:
gray, Florentine blacks, white, blue, purple, blacks of Mercy, red.
Under the old regime, white penitents met in the Dominican enclosure.
The chapel has been one of the venues for the Festival d'Avignon since the 1960s, with the programming of Théâtre Ouvert.
The hall has 164 seats.
