Geocache Description:

The cache is not hidden at the posted coordinates, but the best place to park is outside the church. Take care heading towards the final cache as there is no pavement for a short part of the route. The cache is hidden along a public footpath. Please do NOT enter the private estate road which is adjacent.

All Saints church dominates the eastern approach to Mattishall. This large church dates from the late 14th century, possibly replacing an earlier church that was on the site. The turret was added to the tower in the 17th century and the south porch is Victorian. There are clocks on both the north and south sides of the tower.

To find the coordinates you will need to do some research on Matthew Parker who was Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury from 1559 until 1575. As archbishop he had a reputation of making detailed inquiries about church matters and other things. Because of this, it has often been claimed that he was the original "Nosey Parker," although there is no direct evidence for this. Although he was born in Norwich in ABCD, his connection to Mattishall is through his wife Margaret Harlestone who was born and lived here in a house on Church Plain. They were married in 1547. He died in EFGH. His connection to Mattishall continues to this day with the Parker Sermon which is held each year at Rogationtide. This was established in the will of his wife who directed that the sermon should be given annually by a fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, of which he had been master. He is also featured on the village sign, which is just outside the church.
