Avantura po Izoli
Izola je sredozemsko mesto, ki se nahaja na obali med Piranom in Koprom. Svoje ime je dobilo po otoku, na katerem je nastalo. Otok so kasneje povezali s celino v polotok. Čeprav so bili prebivalci od nekdaj zelo tesno povezani z ribištvom in pridelavo olja ter vina, pa je danes Izola bolj znana kot turistično središče. Staro mestno jedro Izole je ohranilo srednjeveško zasnovo sredozemskega mesta s cerkvijo na vzpetini, prepletenimi ozkimi ulicami, visokimi hišami ter notranjim pristaniščem.
Izola is a Mediterranean town located on the coast between Piran and Koper. It got its name from the island on which it originated.The island was later connected with the mainland into a peninsula. Although the inhabitants have always been very closely associated with fishing and oil and wine production, today Izola is better known as a tourist center. The old town of Izola has preserved the medieval design of the Mediterranean town with a church on a hill, intertwined narrow streets, tall houses and an inner harbor.
Mestna plaža / City beach
Izolsko mestno kopališče, imenovano tudi plaža pri svetilniku, je ena bolj ikoničnih plaž v slovenski Istri in se nahaja na Petelinjem rtu, v samem mestnem središču Izole. Poleti se v tem delu tare kopalcev in ljubiteljev sonca, morja in morskih aktivnosti. Zaradi lahkega dostopa do morja, sence dreves v bližnjem gozdičku in bližine mestnega jedra, je plaža zelo priljubljena tako med turisti kot domačini, še posebej med družinami z majhnimi otroci.
Izola's city beach, also called the beach at the lighthouse, is one of the more iconic beaches in Slovenian Istria and is located on Petelinji rt cape, in the very center of Izola. In summer the place is crowded with bathers, lovers of sun, sea and sea activities. Due to easy access to the sea, the shade of trees in the nearby woods and the proximity of the city center, the beach is very popular with both tourists and locals, especially among families with a small children.
Cerkev sv. Mavra / Church of st. Maver
Cerkev sv. Mavra se nahaja na najvišji točki nekdanjega otoka, na obsežnem platoju na severnem robu mestnega jedra. Dominantno lego na osrednji Izolski vzpetini nekdanjega otoka je cerkev ohranila do danes. Cerkveni kompleks sestavljata cerkev in prosto stoječi zvonik. Pozidavo sedanje cerkve so začeli v sredini 16. stol. na temeljih prvotne romanske cerkve, današnjo obliko pa je dobila v začetku 20. stol. Dobro viden ločen zvonik so sezidali leta 1585, kakršen je ob cerkvi viden še danes.
Church of St. Maver is located on the highest point of the former island, on a large plateau on the northern edge of the city center and it preserved its dominant position to this day. The church complex consists of a church and a free-standing bell tower. The construction of the present church began in the middle of the 16th century on the foundations of the original Romanesque church, and took its present form in the early 20th century. A well-visible separate bell tower was built in 1585.
Besenghi degli Ughi
Palača Besenghi degli Ughi sodi med najbolj ohranjene poznobaročne stavbe na Slovenskem. Trinadstropna palača je bila zgrajena v letih od 1775 do 1781 po naročilu ugledne in premožne istrske družine Besenghi. Gradnjo so zaupali milanskemu arhitektu Dongettiju, enemu najpomembnejših arhitektov tistega časa. Kamniti lev v kotu stavbe je iz 13. stol., najden med ruševinami nekdanje stavbe. Danes ima v palači sedež Glasbena šola Izola, služi pa tudi za poročne obrede.
The Besenghi degli Ughi Palace is one of the best-preserved late Baroque buildings in Slovenia. The three-storey palace was built between 1775 and 1781 by order of the distinguished and wealthy Istrian Besenghi family. The construction was entrusted to the Milan architect Dongetti, one of the most important architects of the time. A stone lion in the corner of the building dates from the 13th century, found under the ruins of a former building. Today, the palace houses the Izola Music School and is also used for wedding ceremonies.
Park Pietro Coppo
Park Pietro Coppo, ki se nahaja v središči Izole, je posvečen znanemu izolskemu geografu, raziskovalcu in kartografu. Rojen je bil leta 1470 v Benetkah, vendar je večino življenja preživel v Izoli, kjer je leta 1556 umrl. Park je glavno prizorišče koncertov različnih gostujočih orkestrov, ki vsako nedeljo v poletnem času popestrijo dogajanje v okviru dogodka Poletne godbe. Nahajaš na začetku parka, pred kamnito reprodukcijo prvega ročno izdelanega zemljevida istrskega polotoka iz 15. stol.
Pietro Coppo Park is located in the center of Izola and is dedicated to the famous geographer, researcher and cartographer. He was born in 1470 in Venice, but spent most of his life in Izola, where he died in 1556. The park is the main venue for concerts by various guest orchestras, which enrich the events of the "Poletna godba" every Sunday during the summer. You are standing at the beginning of the park, before the stone reproduction of the first handmade map of the Istrian peninsula from the 15th century.
Villa Maritima
V Simonovem zalivu se nahajajo ostanki rimske obmorske vile (Villa Maritima). Na začetku našega štetja so bile podobne vile sezidane vzdolž celotne obale Istre. Kompleks takšnih vil običajno sestavljajo pristanišče s skladišči, gospodarski del ter reprezentančni bivalni prostori. Kompleks vile s pristaniščem v Simonovem zalivu je bil en največjih na zahodni obali Istre. Danes je od pristanišča viden le še valobran, ki pa je pod vodo, ker se je nivo morja od rimskega obdobja dvignil za 1,6 metra.
In Simon's Bay are the remains of a Roman seaside villa (Villa Maritima). At the beginning of our count, similar villas were built along the entire coast of Istria. The complex of such villas usually consists of a port with warehouses, an economic part and representative living quarters. The villa complex with a port in Simon's Bay was one of the largest on the west coast of Istria. Today, only the breakwater is visible, which is under water because the sea level has risen by 1.6 meters since the Roman period.
