This cache will lead you to a spot where you can find multiple woodpeckers’ nests.
To see one of the nests, look for a perfect circular hole higher up in trees. You can spot at least three of them nearby the cache. For example, if you stand facing the bench at the sandy spot, you have a tree with such a nest on your left side.
In the springtime, you can hear loud beeping of the baby birds and sometimes see them peaking outside, while the mom is flying around searching for food. You can often hear her pecking for insects around this area or in the nearby woods.
Fun fact: Woodpeckers’ tongues are usually about twice the length of their bill so that they can reach for insects inside the holes they peck out. When not in use, the long tongue curls around the back of the head between the skull and the skin.
