Abbey Park was opened by the City Council in 1882 and has been a public space used ever since. It is a lovely area and gets away from the business of the city; with the River Soar flowing through it, the victorian boating lake and the ruins of the old Abbey, its one of our favourite more picturesque places to visit.
In one corner is the model railway that this SideTracked relates to. There are two model tracks, one 660ft long and one 2,600ft. During the weekdays you can see the members working on their engines or completing maintenance along the track. When the trains are running its something quite cool to see!
