Langs de locatie waar in de 15e eeuw de stadsmuur van Amsterdam stond, ligt een in 2020 nieuw geplaatste serie caches die nu af is. Wanneer je op Amsterdam Centraal aankomt, is dit een mooie wandelroute langs de oude begrenzing van de middeleeuwse stad, die tevens nummer 5 in de Canon van Amsterdam is. Vergeet niet de bonusletters te noteren die op de logrollen van deze cache-serie vermeld staan. Along the location of the old city wall of the 15th century I am placing a new cache series which is finished now. When arriving at Amsterdam Central Station, one can make a nice circular walk through the city and end up at Amsterdam Central Station again. Don't forget to write down the bonus letters written in the logs.
Deze locatie is uitgekozen vanwege het volgende: wanneer je, na de cache gelogd te hebben, onder het viaduct door naar het centrum loopt, ontvouwt zich in de bocht een magnifiek uitzicht op de stad zoals deze eind 15e eeuw was. Op die manier kun je je een voorstelling maken van de omvang van de stad ten tijde van de 15e eeuw: de gebouwen aan de onevenzijde van het Singel en de Prins Hendrikkade tezamen vormden 500 jaar geleden de uiterste noordwesthoek van Amsterdamse bebouwing. Vergeet je ook vooral niet te laven aan de fontein op het pleintje aan de oostzijde van het grote gebouw Droogbak 1 (pleintje ligt ten zuidoosten van de cachelocatie), probeer je af te sluiten van het drukke verkeer en aanschouw het panorama van Prins Hendrikstraat en Singel zoals het in de 15e eeuw was.
This location was chosen because of the following: when, after logging the cache, you walk to the center, one can imagine the size of the city at the time of the 15th century: the buildings on the odd side of the Singel and the Prins Hendrikkade together formed the extreme northwest corner of Amsterdam's buildings 500 years ago. In the middle of this building the Haringpakkerstoren was located, which was demolished in the 19th century.
Do not forget to indulge in the fountain at the square in front of the big Renaissance Droogbak building, try to close yourself off from the busy traffic and enjoy the panorama of Prins Hendrikstraat and Singel as it was in the 15th century.
