Geocache Description:

[LV]

Slēpnis atrodas pamestajā Mežāres pienotavā. Informāciju par šo pienotavu jūs, visticamāk, neatradīsiet nekur internetā, vismaz es neatradu. Visu informāciju ieguvu no saviem vecvecākiem, kuri dzīvo Mežāres pagastā.

The cache is located in the abandoned Mezare dairy. You probably won't find information about this dairy anywhere on the Internet, at least I didn't. I got all the information from my grandparents who live in Mezare parish. The dairy was built by Mezare businessman Mr. Silins during the it operated as a private dairy. In Soviet times kolkhoz (collective farm) took it over, but the dairy continued to operate. Milk was also sold by private individuals. In Soviet times, each family was allowed to keep only one cow, later government allowed to keep two cows per family, but this did not prevent locals from supplying milk to the dairy; milk was also delivered by small cow farms in the area. In the last years of operation of the dairy (in the 1980’s), several kinds of cheese were produced here - Latvian cheese, Russian cheese, Dutch cheese. The dairy was closed at the same time as independence of Latvia was regained - around 1991.

When you are at the dairy, look at the opposite site of the Rezekne highway, you will see an abandoned two-storey house - also this house and was built by the same businessman Mr. Silins, who owed the dairy during the first years of freedom. This is one of the few two-storey houses in Mezare parish, except apartment houses.

Attention! The cache is located outside. Do not risk your life and enter the building - the strength of the building's structures is unknown. The hide is a lock&lock lunch box.
