A neat initiative for the environment
Join geocachers around the world to improve the outdoors, celebrate 20 years of geocaching, and log a rare cache type in 2021!
January 20, Geocaching HQ announced a Locationless Cache GC8NEAT Let’s improve the outdoors. This HQ-owned cache provides a unique opportunity to contribute to environmental improvement and protection efforts in a way that’s most meaningful and safe for us.
Covid-19 cancelled or postponed some fun stuff. Many of us missed activities such as events and the Auckland NZ Mega 2020 (in 2021!) GC87777, as well as the odd Cache In Trash Out® (CITO) event.
There was a possibility we could have logged Find Signal the Frog® – Locationless in 2020 but we don't know if he/she was attending. In the meantime, GC8NEAT offers some of what we’re missing without the wait.
This Locationless Cache is available to log February 6, 2021 through December 31, 2021. Here are the logging requirements for GC8NEAT:
- Include one (1) photo of yourself or a personal item with the results of your outdoor improvement effort.
- Tell HQ in your log where your improvement effort took place (for example, at this CITO.)
Optional: Provide additional images of your improvement effort, great storytelling in your log is highly encouraged.
Of course, don't forget to log this CITO too! as this CITO will also earn you a souvenir for the Cache In Trash Out®, Season 1: available March 1 through May 31
Meet at the carpark near the public toilets at Timona Park Feilding
at 3:00PM Sunday 7 March 2021
This CITO will involve a slow walk around Timona Park.
Bring gloves and a rubbish bag, although I will have spare bags.
The CO will take the rubbish to dump.
Phronimos has noticed quite a bit of rubbish when walking Maggie the geohound: Litter, bottles, cans, plastic... around the park and alongside the river. It'll be nice to pick it up and improve the area. Gaia will thank us. And "Thank you."
