Geocache Description:

Neuberg Congregational Church was founded in 1898 by a group of settlers, Germans from Russia, who had come to America seeking relief from increasingly oppressive living conditions. For seven years, they worshipped at the farm of John Sayler, but in 1905, they bought a vacant Lutheran church and moved it to this site. Twenty years later, their congregation having swelled in number, they chose to build this church. The members of this congregation “totally ignored the Russian part of their heritage. They culturally identified as Germans.” Until 1953, all services were held in German. Regular services continued until approxinatley 1983.  The church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. In 2014 residents of the area began work to restore this beautiful church. There are occasional services held, but I cannot say for certain when those services are held.

The cemetery is just north of the church and the cache is hidden west of this cemetery.

I placed a cache here, so that fellow geocachers can see the efforrts of these rural North Dakotans in preserving a part of their ancestor's history.

Please be respectful of this area. Do not attempt to enter the church or leave any litter behind. I hope you enjoy this "Ghost on the Prairie"
