Community Celebration - Winter Solstice
Growing up in Minnesota, the Winter Solstice meant a cold day with limited sunlight. In Southeast Texas, I have many friends and family members who embrace winter as a reprieve from the summer heat of Texas. What is your favorite season in Texas: Summer or Winter?
Join us for a celebration of all things geocaching - from travel bugs and geocoins to D/T grid quests to that elusive First to Find!
Where: Mathews Park at the Gazabo / posted coordinates
When: Saturday, December 19th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Fun facts about the Solstices:
On Saturday, December 19, two days before the Winter Solstice - the sun will rise at 7:13 a.m. and set at 5:26 p.m. for a total of 10 hours and 13 minutes.
On Sunday, June 21, 2020, the Summer Solstice - the sun rose at 6:21 a.m. and set at 8:27 p.m. for a total of 14 hours and 5 minutes.
As you can see, daylight during the summer is just under 4 hours long. Longer to go geocaching or longer to be out in the Texas heat?
Bring a lawn chair, trackable, geocoins, and a story about your first find.
