Geocache Description:

23 October 2021, 08:30 - 10:30

Come join our Community Celebration Event as we remember our friend, David Powell, a.k.a., OR85OR450.

David was a "dual citizen" of Arlington, Texas, and Manitou Springs, Colorado. Besides being a gentleman of good spirit and character, he was a climber extraordinaire. For this reason, we gather at an iconic technical climb cache location - Orange Crush - that he visited several times to help others make the climb.  During our time of celebration, I hope we can share tales of geocaching & climbing with David. Please post stories and pictures in your logs. Yesterday would have been David's 60th birthday.

Please wear a mask and keep social distance. Bring your own camp chair.

I really enjoyed caching with David in August of 2019 in Colorado. After a CITO that I hosted in the forest above Woodland Park, he and I tackled Teamwork (GC1BP8K). The background image of this cache page is David making the "chimney" ascent on the way back from the cache.

David was also an adept technical climber and on several occassions at this location he, BEViking and TTO2 helped others make the technical climb up to Orange Crush. (GCPHJ0). David would sit up in the top of the tree for 3 hours while others would make the technical climb to the cache. I was one of the ones he helped on December 30, 2017, not long after his being released from the hospital from an ongoing battle with cancer. Because of the chemotherapy drugs, the hospital gave him a "Fall Risk" bracelet each time. If only they knew!  He saved those bracelets and attached them to his climbing gear backpack.

The location is out in the woods - at ground level. Bring your own chair.
