On 4/17/01 two caches were were placed in CNY. One was by Anton-GC6A2, but it was archived in 2010, and after a year, I went and removed the geojunk and resurrected it as Ode to Anton on the FLT. The other cache, which came out on the same day, is CNY Falls #1, GC6A8. BobShear, who placed this one originally with his family, thought he was placing the first local cache, but although he can't claim that, he can claim longevity. This is in part because after he left the area, Kai Team contacted him, and adopted his caches. Many local cachers know KaiTeam for Bob's connection to the summer parks challenge since he provides statistics for the caches, cachers, and the parks. Others know the name because of Bob's connection to GSAK. I first heard of the team when as a new cacher, I noticed the 'Parks in Onondaga County' Challenge. That was my first challenge cache, and I was hooked. KaiTeam heard a story on NPR about geocaching, and knew that a GPS would be helpful when they were back country hiking and camping, and thought geocaching sounded right up their alley.
So that was then, and this is now. Now it's time to celebrate. There will be some games, and a pot luck (optional) picnic. (Chocolate cake has been requested, so yum!) There are trails and caches to visit before and after, so plan accordingly. More information will be added as announcements as we get closer to the date. I hope to see you there.
Please bring a folding chair just in case!
At the time of publication we have no way of knowing what the COVID-19 guidelines will be in 6 months, so we will vary the program as needed. It is planned for outdoors although there is an open sided shelter wtih picnic tables. I will have a sign in sheet for NYS contact tracing. If you don't feel well, please stay home. If sign ups are too many based on the rules in April, the event will be cancelled.
