3rd Annual Thornapple River Spring CITO Cache In Trash Out Event

This cache has been archived.

MIKEY MAC: I'm canceling this event for two reasons.

First, and foremost, the stay at home order continues to be unnecessarily extended by our current governor. I planned to push the event back, which brings me to reason number two. While constructing a new fence today, I lost my footing in some loose soil and broke my ankle. Sounds like 4-8 weeks of basically zero mobility unless I'm on crutches or a scooter.

I will try to organize a fall kayak CITO hopefully.

Please accept my apologies for cancelling on everyone.

Geocache Description:

06 June 2020, 08:30 - 12:00

It's CITO week (well, now it's CITO quarter)! Time to earn your spring CITO souvenir.

Sure, you COULD earn your CITO moseying around a community park, picking up discards from the culverts and ditches. OR you could join us on the water. So pull your kayaks out of the storage unit and pull your canoes out of the sheds. We're going down the river!

Plan to arrive at the LAUNCH waypoint by 8:30am on Saturday, June 6th. We will figure out the shuttle arrangements, and drop at least one car off at the EXTRACTION waypoint. We will return to the launch and shove off promptly by 9am.

The paddle should take between 2 and 2.5 hours. As an added bonus, there are a few extra caches you can pick up at the launch, along the way, and at the extraction point. We plan to arrive at the posted coordinates for the official event and logbook signing at 10:45am, the logbook will be available for 30 minutes.

Bring your kayak, canoe, or otherwise water-worthy vessel and join us for a day cleaning up one of Kent County's longest rivers. Garbage bags will be provided. Life jackets and sunscreen are recommended.

**If there is inclement weather, well, we're gonna get wet, because there's no backup date.**
**You will receive a CITO week souvenir for your attendance.

Based on the feedback from prior year's events where 3 experienced paddlers ended up in the drink, it is recommended that all participants be familiar with control and navigation of their chosen watercraft. The cache owner will not be responsible for accidents on the waterways including (but not limited to) improper clearing of water obstacles resulting in you ending up in the river and your kayak floating down the river half a mile and you having to walk along the waterfront to try to catch up to the group who have fully submersed themselves into the river to save your watercraft while being stared down by chickens and goats of the most vile nature. (Any similarities of this story to real experiences are strictly coincidence).
