Geocache Description:


St Benedicts Church Wood Enderby

Parish church. c.1791. Coursed and squared greenstone rubble and red brick, pantile roofs with stone coped gables. Nave and chancel. Planked west door with plain fanlight and semi-circular surround. Above in the brick gable a louvred and gabled wooden bell housing. Greenstone north wall of nave and chancel are featureless. 3 light east window with cusped wooden tracery, and in the south brick wall 2 two light windows with wooden tracery. Inside is a plastered semi-circular chancel arch, otherwise there is a panelled late C18 pulpit and a C14 octagonal font having trefoils to the sides, human head masks and moulded rim with fleurons.

Stay on the path to collect the information needed for the final. You are looking for the Gravestone of a man whose surname is that of a marine mammal, think Henry Williamson if stuck!

Died Jan AB CDEF aged GH years. There is a particularly nice quote on the stone. "In the midst of life, we are in death".
