Where it Began in Australia.
Very close to here is where the first cache was placed in Australia. It was a physical cache then that was placed on 18th May 2000. Since then it has been changed to a virtual cache and can still be done. The lookout there will also give you a birds eye view of the Lane Cove River. It was here that the 10th and 15th anniversaries of geocaching were celebrated, so why not the 20th as well.
So this event is being held to celebrate a belated 20th birthday for geocaching as well as a belated 20th birthday celebration of the location and placement of Australia's first geocache.
Date: 30th January 2021.
Time: 4 pm to 6 pm.
This event has now been divided into two parts because of the limit on numbers that can gather due to COVID restrictions at this stage. The times are from 4 pm to 5 pm and from 5 pm to 6pm (as per the announcement made on the cache page). Please nominate on your Will Attend log how many people are coming under your caching name AND during which hour you would like to attend.
Place: Scribbly Gums picnic area in Lane Cove National Park.
This will be an ideal opportunity to bring your trackables to be discovered or moved, along as well as it being a good time to swap path tags and geocaching stories.
You will need to bring your own chairs, hats, sunscreen etc.
Drinks and nibbles will be provided.
Hand sanitiser will be available and social distancing will be practised.
Please Note - There is an $8 park use fee per vehicle payable in coins or by card. Maybe you would like to car pool with other geocachers.
