Geocaching has been around for 20 plus years. What started as a way for some friends to get out and use the technology has grown into a worldwide game. Geocaching brings people together from as close as across town to around the world.
Well, the GARGANTUAN MAGNITUDE party to take place in Seattle to celebrate Geocaching’s 20th anniversary may be on hold, but you can join me for a little less magnitude of a celeberation as I commemorate my 20th year of Geocaching with a Signature Event. Yes, twenty years ago today, I found my first geocache while on a camping trip with Scouts. We had a break in camp activities and Neil said "Hey, do you want to go with me and the kids to try this new game I saw on the internet. It is like a treasure hunt but you use one of these (He showed me his GPS)" so off into the forest we went and found an ammo can in a rock outcropping.
I cannot say that I got hooked right then and there but it did spark an interest to go buy a GPS. Of course my spouse had a different view telling me "YOU SPENT A $100 DOLLARS ON WHAT - HOW LONG TILL THAT ENDS UP IN THE DRESSER DRAWER". Well, that GPS did end up in a dresser drawer only because I got a newer one with better features and twenty years later, I am still going strong.
Hope you can join us because the best part about geocaching are the people you meet along the way; the stories we share: the help we give each other and the just plain fun we have out caching.
