About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

We think Wondabyne station is pretty cool, and definitely worth a trip!

About Wondabyne Station

Wondabyne railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the southern Central Coast area known as Wondabyne and opened in 1889. It is the only railway station in Australia that does not have road access.

Wondabyne has a sandstone quarry that is used intermittently and several houses which can only be accessed by boat from a jetty next to the station. As Wondabyne is a request stop, not all trains stop there.

Wondabyne Station is mainly used by bushwalkers on the Great North Walk and the homeowners who live on the other side of Mullet Creek which is a tributary of the Hawkesbury River.
There are no facilities at the station - including water, so bring your own - if you are planning on some of the higher terrain caches up the hill, bring a lot. Mobile reception is sketchy at best, and generally absent. - edit 2022 - wifi now available at Wondabyne - although it does seem to be Telstra only.

Study the train timetables in advance of your trip, you will need to let the guard know you wish to get off at Wondabyne, and stay in the rearmost carriage. You will need to wave to signal the driver to pick you up to catch the train from Wondabyne.

To find the cache: You will need to catch a train or boat to Wondabyne Station.
All the info you need is on the northbound platform (furthest from the creek).

The cache has been hidden at S 33° 29.ABC E 151° 15.BDE

You will need to find values for A-E (they are all different).
There are two ways to gather these numbers, in case of sign removals....

1. At the northern end of the platform is a yellow sign - the last digit in the telephone number is A. The second digit in the telephone number is B. The ID you need to quote is CEC.
At the southern end of the platform is a sign titled 'WOY WOY WS & GRN RADIO SYSTEM'. On this sign is a distance for Wondabyne Station - D is the middle digit in the decimals (ie xx.xDx KM)

2. Look at the Great North Walk signage at the northern end of the platform.
The phone number is xEBD xxx BxA, C is the distance to Girrakool.

Checksums - S 31, E 27

The cache is located not far off the Great North Walk, several hundreds metres away - this isn't a 'park' and grab, the track leaves the station to the south, and is quite steep. When hidden contained a logbook and pencil.
