Guest of Honor:  the O.C.B.*

Congratulations to:

heartFTF SoCalifSue, for arriving first and helping to set up.  You ROCK, Margaret!

heartJelly Bean Game winner TiggerRd (there were 2,776 beans in the jar -- I really am a bean counter, and I really counted each one -- and she guessed 2,787... that's crazy!  Be careful, though, that's 11,148 calories surprise.  She chose a custom TRUROKR walking stick as her prize... dang, I wanted that!  Special thanks to TRUROKR for donating that prize!  John, you... well... you TRUely ROK!)

heart "What's in a Name" winner GasStationTuna (who won handily with 20/20 correct! Didn't even need the tiebreakers: a.) who is awr of maddmaxxawr? b.) who are the 2 gsm's?, and c) who put the bomp in the bomp bah bomp bah bomp?)

heart First Vicennial Chili Cook-Off winners cindy&randy (normally, great chili is not referred to as Number Two, but in this case, it was award-winning!  Check out their log below, where they graciously share the recipe!)

Event festivities include:

  • O.C.B.* Chili Cook-off and Pot Luck (more below)
  • Bean-bag toss (OK, it's cornhole, but can-of-corn isn't our theme!)
  • Games and raffle
  • 20, count 'em, 20 new caches to publish in the area, starting early in the morning.
  • Can of beans food drive (if you like, please bring a can of beans - any type - for donation to the local Simi Valley food pantry)

*O.C.B. - What is O.C.B.? Why, it's the Original Can of Beans! Way back on May 3rd of 2000, Dave Ulmer hid the first ever geocache, which he called a GPS stash. The contents of his black bucket included a can of beans - more specifically black-eyed peas, which are actually beans (genus Vigna) and not peas (genus Pisum). (To see a super cool video about all this by Dave Ulmer, click HERE.) The O.C.B. was salvaged from the original cache location in 2003 and is now a TRAVEL BUG taken care of by TEAM 360.

The O.C.B. can only be discovered in person, and you will have the rare opportunity to do just that, as TEAM 360 accompanies the O.C.B. to this event, all the way from AZ! To learn more about the rich history of the sport we love so much, click HISTORY.

Chili Cook-off - Team CaVaBean is going on record as entering a pot of chili in the cook-off. To enter your world famous chili, please message the CO or post in your Will Attend.

Pot luck (purely optional) - While we will provide drinks and chili fixin's (cheese, sour cream, onions, etc), as well as all necessary bowls, cups, plates and utensils (so kindly post Will Attends,) we also welcome any dishes you would like to share -- in particular, bean-themed ones! "You got yer bean dip, yer 3-bean salad, yer mashed garbanzo beans (aka hummus), yer green bean casserole, yer Boston baked beans..." you get the idea, Bubba. If you will be bringing something, THANK YOU and please message the CO or post in your Will Attend, and make sure to check out the July 19th Announcement in the logs below for extra details. And please do not feel like you must bring anything to attend but your smiling face!
