Geocache Description:

14 June 2020, 11:00 - 13:00

On May 3rd, 2000 the first-ever geocache was hidden. (Original Stash Tribute Plaque)  A five-gallon bucket was placed by Dave Ulmer. In the bucket, Dave placed a Delorme Topo USA, 2 CD Roms, a cassette recorder, a "George of the Jungle" VHS tape, a Ross Perot book, four $1 bills, a slingshot handle and the now notorious, original can of beans (now the O.C.B. trackable). The coordinates were then listed on the internet and the modern-day geocaching was born. The first one to find the cache was Mike Teague who took the money and left some cigarettes, a cassette tape, and a pen.

Come out to help us celebrate this special anniversary and get the new icon.  We will be having a potluck at the pavilion located at Prarie Creek recreational area in Maquoketa.  This is a great location full of fun geocaches and lots of trails to hike. There will be new caches placed in the Maquoketa area for the event, door prizes, and geocache bingo.

We will be supplying hot dogs, buns, drinks, and cups. Please bring something to share. Also, feel free to bring anything else that you would want to cook on the grill if you do not like hotdogs. To make this an environmentally friendly event, we ask that you bring your own reuseable plate and silverware. Every one that does so will have their name put in a drawing for a prize.

Time:11:00-1:00 Feel free to come early or stay late to hike the trails and grab some caches.

Place: Prarie Creek Pavilion  Follow the paved road to the pavilion.

*NEW*  A1bob will be holding a Geocache 101 class at 11:00 in order to help new geocachers get started. There are many geocaches in the park so this will be a perfect time to help turn Muggles into Cachers.

See you there!
