Geocache Description:

02 May 2021, 11:00 - 13:00

On May 2, 2000 – 21 years ago! – the US Government flipped a switch that allowed anyone with a GPS to accurately find their location. This made personal GPS units 10-times more accurate than they had been and helped create fun activities like geocaching. In fact, the very first geocache was hidden on May 3, 2000. Was the switch blue? Who knows! But “Blue Switch Day” has been celebrated ever since.

Along with a celebration of the event that made geocaching possible, several new geocaches plan to be published in the area, including a magical series of Harry Potter themed caches that can be accessed down the trail from the event. (Hike the trail for free, but as it is the Fox River State Trail, if you bring your bike along to increase your speed down the trail, it will require a state trail pass.)

Stop by to join in with other geocachers to compare notes on favorite caches, stories, and travel bug trades.

This geocaching event itself will be held outdoors at the Ledgestone Vineyards and Gnarly Cedar Brewery, Greenleaf.

Food and beverage is optional, but available for purchase at the event location. Due to covid precautions, if you would like to enjoy indoor dining or partaking of beverages at the event location, you'll need to make an advanced reservation via the website of the venue. Carryout is available without advanced reservation starting at noon.
