Geocache Description:

About Village Sign Caches

This cache belongs to the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).

The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!

More information and statistics can be found at the Village Signs Website

Stanstead St Margarets is a village adjacent to Stanstead Abbotts and the two are separated by the train line. Further up the road is Great Amwell. The Greenwich Meridian passes through Stanstead St Margarets as can be seen by Meridian Obelisk just over the New River.

If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do. I would ask that you let us know first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk so we can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.

About Wherigo Reverse Caches:

Wherigo Reverse Caches were inspired by the original Reverse Geocache Puzzle Box please view the video below to get an an idea how this is going to play.

reverse

Instead of using that box of tricks to find this reverse Whereigo cache you will use the cartridge which you will have to download and install on your device before you go out to find this reverse cache.

The cartridge for the Wherigo version was developed by Waldmeister and has been re-used in many difference caches.

About this Geocache:

To find the cache you will need to download this Wherigo cartridge to a compatible device.

This cartridge will tell you how far it is to the final location but not the direction - you will have to work that out for yourself.
So far so good? In order to activate it you need to enter three 6-digit numbers and you will need to go to the published coordinates to find out what they are.

So far so good?

The three six-digit numbers to activate the cartridge are usually given on the cache pages but we have made this one so cachers have to visit the posted coordinates and work out the required numbers. To find the cache note some numbers from the village sign.
The locomotive number is ABCD
S is the number of swans on one side of the sign
M is the month that the sign was erected in the year 20YZ
H is B / S
Keep a note of these - you might want them later. Good luck.
