About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website
About Nethertown Station
Nethertown station is directly on the coast in a spectacular and remote position overlooking the Irish sea from a small cliff.
Pearson's 1992 railway guide is moved to comment, "The tiny halts at Braystones and Nethertown are as remote as anything British Rail has to offer....Nethertown station seems suspended between the cliff face and the sands".
There is a vehicle track from the public highway and a footpath shortcut to the village.
According to the latest official figures for 2017/18, 536 passengers used the station, making it the least used in Cumbria, and on a national scale the 2,529th busiest out of the 2,559 stations on the network.
The station, which opened on July 19th 1849, is a request stop - stick your hand out to get on, tell the guard if you want to get off!
Kudos points to anyone who arrives and departs by train; double points if it's the same train - and you find the cache!
