Geocache Description:

16 January 2022, 09:00 - 17:00

The Wangaratta Event is being held on the lands of the 8 clans of the Yorta Yorta nation and we wish to acknowledge them as Traditional Owners.

We would also like to pay our respects to their Elders, past and present who have resided in the area and have been an integral part of the history of this region.

Not all those who wander are lost.

Unless their GPSr battery is dead, then they are lost.

COVID Safe Plan

These guidelines are provided to assist Geocaching Victoria Inc (GVI) with the running of the Wangaratta Mega Event and associated surrounding events organised by GVI. The Wangaratta Mega is being held in the Wangaratta Showgrounds precinct which encompasses the Wangaratta Sports & Aquatic Centre (WSAC), the Wangaratta Football Clubrooms (WFC), the Cattle Pavilion, and various other open-air locations.

In all cases, the current Government or Local Authority requirements must be adhered to and override any guidelines set out below.

Attendance

Please, do not attend our events if any of the following apply:

  • you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and have not recovered.
  • you have been in close contact with a known case of COVID-19 in the last 7 days.
  • you have recently been tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting your results.
  • you have flu like symptoms (fever, coughing, sore throat or shortness of breath).
  • you have been directed to quarantine by any State Health Service.

QR Code Scanning

It is mandatory that all attendees check-in to all events and activities at the Mega using the Victorian Government QR Code Service. QR Codes will be made available wherever you need to check-in. If you don’t have a smartphone, or are unable to scan the QR code, please see the event host who will help you with this. Alternatively, a friend can scan with their smart phone and enter your details on your behalf. Scanning the Victorian Government QR Code is a government covid tracing requirement and has nothing to do with logging a found at any of the events.

Vaccination Status

Valid vaccination status checks are required for all GVI areas including but not limited to:

  • The Mega Event pavilion (inside the WSAC)
  • Registration
  • The Mega Logbook
  • The Maze
  • Geocaching Victoria Store
  • Geostuff
  • Mr Doctors Invisible Containers
  • Raffles Desk
  • The Wangaratta Football Clubrooms including balconies
  • Community Celebration Event Dinner

All camping areas, Adventure Lab cache area, CITO area and Rotary Park are open areas freely accessible to all members of the general public; these do not require vaccination status checks.

A valid vaccination status is required for access to all activities in the Wangaratta Sports & Aquatic Centre. It is a requirement of WSAC and will be enforced at the front door of the centre. Please treat our hosts with respect, we are their guests.

Face Masks

Wearing of face masks is required indoors and recommended outdoors. Wearing of face masks is required indoors at all sites including Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre, the Wangaratta Football Club and the Cattle Pavilion. All activities associated with these venues will require the wearing of face masks indoors.

Wearing of face masks is strongly recommend if you can’t physically distance, even if you are outdoors, or if you are with people who may be vulnerable to COVID-19.

Carry your mask at all times when away from home.

Physical Distancing

We encourage you to practice physical distancing whilst at events. This means greeting people with a smile or wave rather than shaking hands, hugging, or kissing. Stay 1.5 metres away from people where you can.

Hand Sanitizer

Hand sanitizer will be provided at all Geocaching Victoria events. We encourage the use of this when you arrive and when you leave, at the very least. Also, use of sanitizer after touching communal surfaces (tabletops, handrails etc) is encouraged.

Registration, Logbook & Maze

These areas are inside and require a valid vaccination status and face masks. Registration, the Logbook and Maze will be available to visit all weekend. When people are starting to bank up in a line (i.e., more than 10-15 people), recommend to those further back in the line that they should come back a little later when the queue has reduced.

GVI’s perpetual logbooks will be available to physically sign for the Mega Event and the Maze Event. Geocachers must bring their own pen or stamp to sign. All other Mega associated events will not have logbooks.

The Mega event logbook will be available outside the WSAC at various times (times to be determined at the event). An announcement will be posted on the event page prior to this happening. You do not need to sign the Mega event logbook to log the event as attended but we hope that you do as the logbook is part of our local geocaching history. To log the Maze as found you must sign the logbook, the logbook will only be available at the exit of the Maze (don’t forget your pen or stamp).

Please maintain physical distancing in queues at all locations.

Adventure Lab Geocaches

The Adventure Lab caches will be in the held in the Cattle Pavilion in the Showgrounds. This building is open to fresh air and freely open to the public therefore it is deemed to be uncontrolled open space. Vaccination checks are not required but it is highly recommended that you wear a face mask. Hand sanitiser will be provided for all to use.

Crowding and Numbers

While every effort has gone into hosting events that will minimise crowding of attendees and overall numbers these are still open events and we rely on attendees showing due caution and exercising Covid safe practices.

Please listen to your event hosts and volunteers and follow their directions.
