The cache is located 1000’ UP ;-) the Museum Trail in Palm
Springs, California. Container is an 8" Rubber Maid tub with a blue
lid.
Drive into downtown Palm Springs, turn west on Tahquitz Way,
then north on Museum Drive. The Palm Springs Desert Museum is
located directly behind the Desert Fashion Mall. Park in the north
parking lot of the museum at [T1-Trail] coordinates. Check out this
great desert museum. TAKE WATER.
Notice the white spots, letters, and words along the trail. At
one point you head downhill for a short distance. At the bottom of
this hill, the word ‘Museum’ is painted in white letters, with an
arrow pointing the way back to the museum. On the way back DOWN
from the cache, remember to walk UP the trail at this indicator.
Most folks should have no trouble with this hike, just take it easy
and rest when needed. Many people wait until just before the sun
goes behind the mountain in the afternoon to start this hike. The
entire trail becomes shaded. You will be proud you made this hike.
The views are incredible.
By the way, a little past Tom, the trail meets the Carl Lykken
Trail, which goes back down to Palm Springs either way, north or
south, with the trail to the south the most fun. The museum parking
lot is 470 feet above sea level. Cache is 1440' elevation. You can
actually hike from this point all the way up to the top of San
Jacinto Peak at 10,400 feet! One of the largest continuous
elevation gains in the United States. Get expert advice if you ever
feel crazy enough to want to try this!
Begin at a gap in a concrete wall at [T1-Trail]. Walk up, across
a paved driveway, and continue up the trail to [T2-Tables], north
to [T3-Tom], and find [T4-Cache].
