Geocache Description:

An addition to REALLY sidetracked series around the area. At this very spot where the pedestrian crossing is also is the spot where there existed a level crossing for a single track rail link from the Midland mainline nearby to the world famous factory site. If you look through history pages you will see the network of tracks inside the site and many of them entered some of the main building you can see behind you.

I remember the gates for this level crossing remaining in place after closure in the early 80s until redevelopment of the road perhaps in the late 90s. North West of here there is currently situated another small business which used to be a field/land which had the rail curving West towards the slowline next to the mainline. I remember living on Lilac grove as a child and seeing the gates closed for cars and a train coming through slowly. Only saw this a couple of times and remember on one occasion a Class 31 diesel loco pulling/pushing the freight along this line.

Obviously everything is vastly re-developed now but placing a cache here to mark this spot in Beeston and the world famous factorys' history is worth it.

The Cache

Co-ords are quite accurate, container is small and blends in. A hint would give it away I think.

Happy caching.
