Geocache Description:

Pietinėje miesto dalyje tyvuliuoja Marijampolės arba kitaip dar vadinamos Šešupės marios.

1974 m., užtvenkus Šešupę prie Kvietiškio, suformuotas Marių parkas, kuris šiltuoju metų laiku tapo daugelio gyventojų ir miesto svečių mėgstama poilsiaviete.

Sprendimas užtvenkti Šešupę buvo priimtas dėl iškilusio poreikio aprūpinti šiaurinį pramonės rajoną vandeniu, be to marijampoliečiai jautė trūkumą dėl nesančių natūralių gamtos šaltinių tinkančių poilsiui, todėl pastačius užtvanką buvo pradėti Marių parko įrengimo darbai.
