A simple traditional cache in a beautiful and tranquil area.
So, the story goes.....I asked Stan for 4 numbers a few months ago as I had spotted 4 bridges in and around Salisbury and Amesbury, but due to caching density, 4 became 3. This left me with one unused number which I knew would be irritating Stan, as I have spent enough time caching with him over the years to recall his pique at having to contact various cachers to find out if they still intended to use their allocated numbers. At this point the story is kind of a mix of the "Gruffalo" and "The Princess and the pea".
So, desperate to avoid Stan's vexations, I spotted this area while contemplating the nearby series "Grovely's Witchcraft Ring" by Rosie & Co, and set about checking the area out. To my delight, the bridge is certainly deserving of a cache, and it is a lovely area as the River Wylye burbles by underneath the bridge.
I have not given parking coordinates on this occasion, but I believe there are a couple of possible spots around St Giles Church that could be used, and maybe a spot for one car at the entrance to Manor Farm Lane. Failing that, I am sure a spot could be secured at the Royal Oak just down the road for the price of a pint!
It is a short 5 minute walk to gz from all of the suggested parking areas, and you are looking for a micro sized container on the North side of the bridge.
Happy hunting!!
The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast. A list of cachers who have found 10 or more little bridges and can be found here, if you would like to add to the series, please contact Stan on stanthews@aol.com and he will give you a number for your bridge, to qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xx then name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to the list.
