This cache is hidden in the city park of New Leipzig with the permission of the mayor. This cache is being placed to help commemorate the Geocache Event "Leipzig greets New Leipzig" . I have 3 other caches hidden in and around the city but wanted to have a cache that will have some NEW Leipzig and North Dakota swag for our special visitor Schmunzelhaase.
The city of New Leipzig was moved and renamed "New Leipzig" in 1910 when the Northern Pacific Railroad was built through this area. Most of the settlers who settled this community were German-Russians and thus the name Leipzig. When the city was moved to utilize the railroad the name New Leipzig was used. A bronze plaque now marks the original site of Leipzig.
