Kufel gigant / The giant beer mug Virtual Cache

Niemal w samym centrum Poznania znajduje się jeden z największych na świecie kufli do piwa. Jest to rzeźba autorstwa Wojciecha Kujawskiego. Rzeźba została odsłonięta 11 marca 2007, przy okazji ustanawiając dwa rekordy, które trafiły do księgi rekordów Guinnessa - na największy kufel oraz ilość litrów wypitego z niego piwa (4250 litrów!)

Miejsce, w którym stoi kufel nie jest przypadkowe. Około roku 1876 zaczął powstawać tutaj, wkrótce największy w Poznaniu, browar. Należał do słynnej rodziny browarników - Huggerów. Specjalnością browaru był pilzeński Kryształ, ciemny monachijski Specjał oraz Porter. W roku 1918 browar Huggerów wyprodukował 72 tys. hektolitrów piwa. Po pierwszej wojnie światowej Huggerowie wyprowadzili się do Niemiec, a browar w 1926 roku przejęty został przez Zakłady Romana Maya. Niestety ze względu na światowy kryzys browarowi nie udało się utrzymać tak wysokiej produkcji jak przed wojną. Coraz wyższe podatki i ceny chmielu spowodowały, że zakład sprzedawał tylko 10% swoich zdolności produkcyjnych (38,5 tys. hl piwa rocznie). Pod koniec drugiej wojny światowej Niemcy przerobili piwnice browaru na bunkry i schrony, co skończyło się poważnymi uszkodzeniami browaru podczas walk o Poznań. Po wojnie, już jako zakład państwowy, browar dalej produkował piwo, aż do roku 1980, kiedy tutejszą fabrykę zamknięto. Potem przez klika lat znajdowała się tu jeszcze rozlewnia Pepsi, a w latach 90-tych, pamiętam osobiście, w części budynku działał pub dla motocyklistów.

Na przełomie tysiącleci miejsce przebudowano i od 2003 roku znajduje się tu popularne centrum handlowe i galeria sztuki Stary Browar. A w nim, wśród innych rzeźb, także nasz kufel gigant.

- zrób zdjęcie, na którym próbujesz podnieść kufel lub na którym łaskoczesz jedną z postaci wyrzeźbionych na kuflu (w parku obok można znaleźć piórka!)
- napisz w logu za co lub za kogo wzniósłbyś toast tak wielkim kuflem, gdybyś był w stanie go unieść.

Almost in the center of Poznań you can find one of the world's largest beer mugs. This is a sculpture by Wojciech Kujawski. The sculpture was unveiled on March 11, 2007, while setting two records that went to The Guinness Book of World Records - for the largest mug and the amount of liters of beer drunk from it (4,250 liters!)

The place where the mug is standing is not accidental. In 1876 the Hugger brothers, from the famous family of brewers, bought a cooling house, two dwelling houses and a backhouse located at the corner of Półwiejska and a street stretching from Wilda Gate, along municipal fortifications next to Grolman Fort. On the beginning of 20th century the Huggers’ company became more and more prosperous, the Brewery was transformed into a joint-stock company. A new office building, cooper workshops and a new chimney were built around the Courtyard. In 1918 the Brewery produced almost 72 000 hectolitres of beer of three brands: Cristal (light Plzeň style beer), Special (dark Munich style) and Porter. Around 1926 the Brewery was taken over by the Chemical Concern of dr Roman May, and in 1937 by the Union Brewery of Restaurateurs Union (a company of 82 shareholders). In September 1939 the Brewery fell under German management and the production of beer lasted until 1944 when Germans transformed the cellars and vaults of the Brewery into bunkers and shelters. The Brewery got vastly destroyed during the battles of Poznań. After the II World War the Brewery was taken over by the Brewing Companion and the company was nationalised. The brewery continued to produce beer until 1980, when the factory was closed. Then, for several years, there was still the Pepsi bottling plant, and in the 1990s, I remember in person, in a part of the building there was a pub for motorcyclists.

At the turn of the millennium the place was rebuilt and since 2003 there is a popular shopping center and art galery Stary Browar – The Old Brewery. And in it, among others sculptures, there is our giant mug.

TO LOG THE CACHE YOU NEED TO DO 2 THINGS:
- take a photo in which you are trying to pick up a mug or in which you are tickling one of the characters carved on the mug (in the park next to it you can find feathers!)
- write in the log for what/who would you have toast with such a huge mug if you could lift it.

- because the mug is in the place full of art be like an artist and draw something that is associated with the place you come from, sign the drawing with your nickname and take a picture of the drawing (and preferably also yourself) on the background of the mug

- in the spring and summer between 6AM and 10PM

- in the autumn and winter between 7AM and 9PM
