Welterbe Albulabahn
Die Albulabahn, ein Teilstück der schmalspurigen Rhätischen Bahn (RhB), führt von Thusis am Hinterrhein nach St. Moritz im Oberengadin. Die knapp 62 km lange Strecke wurde 1903 nach weniger als fünf Jahren Bauzeit eröffnet, das letzte Teilstück von Celerina nach St. Moritz konnte allerdings erst im folgenden Jahr in Betrieb gehen. Eine Verlängerung über den Malojapass bis herunter nach Italien war angedacht, wurde aber nie umgesetzt. Durch die Eröffnung der Albulabahn wurde das Netz der RhB um mehr als zwei Drittel auf fast 153 km ausgedehnt. Damit einher ging eine erhebliche Aufstockung des Rollmaterials. 1904 lieferte die SLM Winterthur die erste von zunächst vier Schlepptenderlokomotiven des Typs G 4/5, denen bis 1914/15 noch 25 weitere, teils deutlich verbesserte Lokomotiven folgen. Zwei dieser Lokomotiven, die 1906 abgelieferten Nr. 107 und 108, sind betriebsfähig erhalten.
Die Bahn führt durch schwieriges Gelände und weist eine spektakuläre Streckenführung auf. Das interessanteste Teilstück ist wohl das zwischen Bergün und Preda, wo die Bahn zwei Kehr- und drei Spiraltunnels befährt und vier Mal die Talseite wechselt, um den Höhenunterschied von fast 420 m zu bewältigen. Ein Bahnlehrpfad mit ausführlichen Erläuterungen führt diesen Abschnitt entlang (und bis herunter nach Filisur) und erlaubt einzigartige Ausblicke. Ebenso bemerkenswert sind der Landwasserviadukt bei Filisur und der Soliser Viadukt weiter unten auf der Strecke.
2008 wurde die Albulabahn gemeinsam mit der anschliessenden Berninabahn, die ebenfalls zur RhB gehört, in das UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe aufgenommen.

Wenn Du mit dem Auto anreisen möchtest: bitte denke daran, dass die Passstrasse von Süden her im Winter gesperrt ist! Während dieser Zeit ist Bergün auf der Strasse nur von Tiefencastel - Filisur her erreichbar.

World Heritage Albula Railway
The Albula Railway forms part of the narrow gauge Rhaetian Railway (RhB for Rhätische Bahn) and links Thusis on the Hinterrhein river with the spa resort of St. Moritz in Engadine. Construction of the almost 62 km long line took a bit less than five years and it opened in 1903 while the last section between Celerina and St. Moritz only commenced operations the year after. Extending the line beyond Maloja pass and down to Italy had been considered but never realised. Opening the Albula line meant an increase of the network by more than two thirds to a total of almost 153 km. This also involved additional rolling stock. In 1904, SLM Winterthur delivered the first of four 'G 4/5' (2-8-0) trailing tender locomotives, which were to be followed by 25 more until 1914/15. Two of these locomotives, Nr. 107 and 108, are still in service today.
The railway passes alpine regions and contains spectacular sections. The most interesting piece probably is the section between Bergün und Preda. Here, the line uses two curved tunnels and three spiral tunnels to gain height, almost 420 m in total, and doing so crosses the valley four times. There is a hiking trail along this section (and further down to Filisur) with explanations in English, allowing unique views of the landscape and the railway. Equally remarkable are the Landwasser Viaduct near Filisur and the Solis Viaduct further down.
In 2008, the Albula Railway, together with Bernina Railway, also part of the RhB, was recorded in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
