Na Kleti se v soucasnosti nachazeji hned dve astronomicke "zalezitosti" - hvezdarna a slunecni hodiny. Zatimco Hvězdárna Kleť jiz svoji kes ma, novou virtualku venujeme slunecnim hodinam.
Sluneční hodiny na Kleti
Sluneční hodiny jsou jednim z nejstarsich astronomickych přístrojů. Řadu historických slunečních hodin najdete v blízkém Českém Krumlově, kde se gnómonika - nauka o slunečních hodinách a jejich tvorbě - dokonce v renesanci vyučovala na tamní jezuitské koleji. Moderní sluneční hodiny na Kleti nechala postavit postavit obec Holubov roku 1974 podle návrhu a konstrukce Ing. arch. Petra Peška z Českého Krumlova, vyrobil je pražský kovář Jan Smrž. Čas takto měřený na Kleti se vztahuje k místu, které se nachází na poledníku 14°17´ východní délky. Tento místní čas je odlišný od prakticky používaného času pásmového, u nás středoevropského. Středoevropský čas je čas poledníku 15° východně od Greenwiche. Od středoevropského času se místní kleťský čas opožďuje o 2 min. 52 s, což je vzhledem k možnostem tohoto přístroje zanedbatelné. Větší časový rozdíl je způsoben nepravidelným pohybem Slunce, které promítá svým stínem na ciferníku slunečních hodin tzv. pravý sluneční čas. Ten kolísá oproti střednímu slunečnímu času během roku od + 14 min. (v únoru) do –16 min. (v listopadu). Roční průběh této tzv. časové rovnice (střední čas minus čas pravý), je znázorněn grafem na zadní straně středního číselníku.

Sundial is one of the oldest astronomical instruments. You can find many historical sundials in the nearest town of Český Krumlov. Near the geodetic peak of the Kleť mountain (1084.2 m above sea level, which is a few meters lower than the actual highest point on the rock where the lookout stands today), there is a stone cylindrical column with a remarkable technical and art work - sundial. This modern sundial was funded by Holubov municipality and built by Petr Pešek and Jan Smrž in 1974.
The time measured by Sun-dial on the Kleť mountain refers to a point located on the meridian of 14 ° 17'E. This local time is different from the practically used zone time, Central European in Czech Republic. Central European Time is the meridian time 15 ° East of Greenwich. From Central European Time, local Klet Time is delayed by 2 minutes. 52 s, which is negligible due to the capabilities of this device. The larger time difference is caused by the irregular movement of the Sun, which reflects its shadow on the dial of sundial so-called true solar time. It fluctuates from + 14 min. (in February) to –16 min. (in November). The annual course of this so-called time equation (mean time minus right time) is illustrated by the graph on the back of the middle dial.
