Christiania omfatter et område på ca. 34 Ha på Christianshavn i København. Størsteparten er den tidligere Bådsmandsstræde Kaserne og hele det tidligere ammunitionsareal. Christiania udgør mellem en tredjedel og halvdelen af Københavns bevarede Voldanlæg, der strækker sig fra Langebro i syd til Kvinti Lynette i nord og afgrænser Christianshavn mod øst.
År 1971 rømmede forsvaret Bådsmandsstræde Kaserne og Ammunitionsarealet, hvorefter der skete en ulovlig indflytning af slumstormere. Den 26/9-1971 grundlagdes fristaden Christiania. Den 13. november 1971 “udgav” Christiania officielt deres grundlov. I år 2010 boede der ca. 630 voksne og ca. 130 børn med folkeregisteradresse på Christiania. Christiania er Københavns fjerdestørste turistattraktion, som årligt har omkring en halv million besøgende turister.

UK: Christiania has an area of approx. 34 acres in Christianshavn in Copenhagen. The main part is the former Bådsmandsstræde barracks and the entire former ammunition area. Christiania constitutes between one third and one half of Copenhagen's preserved ramparts, which extend from Langebro in the south to Kvinti Lynette in the north and is limited to Christianshavn to the east.
In 1971, the army left Bådsmandsstræde Barracks and the Ammunition area, after which an illegal occupation of slumstormers occurred. On the 26th of september 1971 ”Christiania's sanctuary was founded. On November 13, 1971, Christiania officially "published" their constitution.
In 2010, approx. 630 adults and approx. 130 children lived in Christiania. Christiania is Copenhagen's fourth largest tourist attraction, which has about half a million visitors per year.
