„Westfälisches Versailles“
Das Schloss Nordkirchen im Kreis Coesfeld im Münsterland ist eines der bedeutendsten Schlösser in Nordrhein-Westfalen und das größte Wasserschloss in Westfalen. Wegen seiner baulichen Ausmaße und der barocken Gestaltung, aber auch wegen der eindrucksvollen Landschafts- und Gartenkunst im angrenzenden Schlossgarten, gilt Schloss Nordkirchen als „Westfälisches Versailles“.
Schloss und Park wurden von dem westfälischen Barockbaumeister Johann Conrad Schlaun geplant. Das Schlossgebäude selbst mit seinen prächtigen Sälen und die hochbarocke Schlosskapelle mit kostbaren Stuckarbeiten, Deckengemälden und Holzschnitzereien ist einen Besuch wert.
An Sonn- und Feiertagen werden Führungen zur Besichtigung des Schlosses angeboten, diese sind kostenpflichtig. Eine Besichtigung des Schlosses ist zum Lösen des Virtuals nicht nötig.
Der Schlossgarten gehört zu den schönsten Gartenanlagen Europas. Zahlreiche namhafte Gartenkünstler haben, seit dem Bau des Schlosses im 18. Jahrhundert durch Fürstbischof Friedrich Christian von Münster aus dem Hause Plettenberg-Lenhausen, an der Gestaltung des Gartens mitgewirkt. Einige Teile des Schlossparks sind nach dem Vorbild englischer Landschaftsgärten entstanden, andere Teile wiederum wurden im Laufe der Zeit „rebarockisiert“.
Der Schlossgarten fasziniert heute noch besonders durch die Rasen- und Broderieparterres, durch Formgehölze und zahlreiche Skulpturen im Park, aber auch durch Alleen und Achsen. Das Schloss Nordkirchen mit seinem bedeutenden Park wurde von der UNESCO als „Gesamtkunstwerk von internationalem Rang“ für schutzwürdig erklärt.
Der Schlossgarten und der Park sind ganzjährig geöffnet und der Besuch ist kostenlos.

Nordkirchen Castle in the district of Coesfeld in the Münsterland is one of the most important castles in North Rhine-Westphalia and the largest moated castle in Westphalia. Because of its structural dimensions and baroque design, but also because of the impressive landscape and garden art in the adjacent palace garden, Nordkirchen Palace is also known as the "Westphalian Versailles".
The castle and park were planned by the Westphalian baroque master builder Johann Conrad Schlaun. The castle building itself with its magnificent halls and the high baroque castle chapel with precious stucco work, ceiling paintings and wood carvings is worth a visit.
On Sundays and public holidays, guided tours of the castle are offered. These are subject to a charge, but are not needed to solve the virtual.
The castle garden is one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe. Numerous renowned garden artists have contributed to the design of the garden since the construction of the castle in the 18th century by Prince Bishop Friedrich Christian von Münster from the house of Plettenberg-Lenhausen. Some parts of the castle park were modelled on English landscape gardens, while other parts were "rebaroqued" over time.
The palace garden still fascinates today especially through the lawn and broderie parterres, shaped shrubs and numerous sculptures in the park, but also through avenues and axes. Nordkirchen Castle with its important park was declared worthy of protection by UNESCO as a "synthesis of the arts of international rank”.
The castle garden and park are open all year round and the visit is free of charge.
