This cache is not located inside one of the Dartmoor firing ranges. However, it is worth noting that the firing range boundary is not that far away, only approximately 500m to the west.
This is a simple remote traditional cache that is situated in the relatively uninspiring hollow that is the source of the stream, Hugh Lake. What this location does have in its favour is some brilliant views to the north east, that are somewhat framed by the shallow valley that this stream is located in.
For those less familiar with Dartmoor, and the idiosyncrasies often associated with its place names, despite the name 'Hugh Lake', this is actually a stream. The derivation of the term 'lake' on Dartmoor is suggested to be a left over of when many of the streams on Dartmoor started in tarns or small lakes. Despite the lakes drying up, they often remain notably boggier than the surrounding areas, the term 'lake' has stuck in the name.
