Geocache Description:

The county of Bridgend has 3 Ogmores named after the river that runs through it (Ogwr in Welsh).

There's one "up the valleys" north of Bridgend at the source of the Ogmore called Ogmore VALE.

There's Ogmore by Sea which is just down the road from here, where the river meets the sea (follow the scent of surfers and ice cream vans)... And then there's this one, Ogmore VILLAGE.

Given that it has a ruined castle (Free entry), ancient stepping stones and a historic pub complete with ghost I think the Village has definitely been here the longest. The whole area is also popular for fishing, walking, horseriding and birdwatching; there's a good, if somewhat breezy, golf course and most of the local hostelries are dog-friendly.

The cache is not here, you need to identify the bird on the village sign in order to proceed.

Once you have that you can use the first 9 letters of that name to get your coordinates

N 51° 28.CYO' W 3° 36.RAR

Use the steps and footpath to get to GZ to stay safe off the road.

The owners of the building at GZ have very kindly given kind permission for me to place the cache, but they are very busy and cannot help you find it, please do not interrupt their business processes.

One word of warning! If you park down by the castle and stepping stones, do bear in mind that the car park sometimes floods at high tides! (see image gallery)

OK, two words of warning, drive slowly and keep a look out for kamikaze sheep!

Village signs is a series of caches based on the ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (normally on the village green!). The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably stated in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country.

If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do. I would ask that you let Smokeypugs know first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
