Venezuela

La producción de café en Venezuela comenzó a fines del siglo XVIII y principios del XIX en la región de bosque premontano de las montañas de los Andes. Su producción se atribuye a la gran demanda del producto, junto con mano de obra barata y bajos costos de la tierra. Se exportó por primera vez a Brasil. Aunque Venezuela se ubicó cerca de Colombia en un tiempo en la producción de café, en 2001, produjo menos del uno por ciento del café del mundo.

El café "Maracaibos" exportado desde el puerto de Maracaibo tiene sub variedades de Cucuta, Mérida, Trujillo y Tachira. El café de las montañas del este se conoce como Caracas, que lleva el nombre de la ciudad capital.

Si bien estas son las variedades locales de café cultivadas en Venezuela, las variedades básicas de café universal bajo las cuales se encuentra el venezolano son el arábica que crece mejor en las regiones montañosas y la Robusta que crece en las regiones de tierras bajas; la primera variedad crece bajo el dosel del bosque, mientras que la última crece bajo sombra parcial.

Lavado Fino es el café más alto del país. La mejor calidad del café venezolano proviene de la región occidental que limita con Colombia. El café se envía desde Maracaibo y el café también se llama "Maracaibos". El café cultivado se caracteriza por "sabores brillantes con un acabado limpio y fresco". También es liviano y de estructura simple pero menos ácido en comparación con otros cafés de América Latina.

Venezuela

Coffee production in Venezuela began in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in the Premontane forest region of the Andes mountains. Its production is attributed to the large demand for the product, coupled with cheap labour and low land costs. It was first exported to Brazil. Though Venezuela was ranked close to Colombia at one time in coffee production, by 2001, it produced less than one percent of the world's coffee.

The “Maracaibos” coffee exported from the Maracaibo port has sub varieties called Cucuta, Mérida, Trujillo, and Tachira. The eastern mountains coffee is known as Caracas, named after the capital city.

While these are the local varieties of coffee grown in Venezuela, the basic universal coffee varieties under which the Venezuelan one fall under are the arabica which grows better in the highland regions, and the Robusta which grows in the low land regions; the former variety grows under forest canopy while the latter grows under partial shade.

Lavado Fino is the country's highest grade of coffee. The best quality of Venezuelan coffee is reportedly from the western region which borders Colombia. The coffee is shipped from Maracaibo and the coffee is also named as "Maracaibos". The coffee grown is characterized as “bright flavours with a clean, crisp finish.” It is also light weight and of simple structure but less acidic as compared with other Latin American coffee.
