About Village Sign Caches
This cache belongs to the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).
The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!
More information and statistics can be found at the Village Signs Website
At the posted coordinates and the waypoint, you'll find rather splendid village signs marking the Northern and Southern boundaries of Hambleton village. The signs are placed at the side of the busy A588 therefore doing a traditional geocache was out of the question.
This geocache is a Multi, you'll need to visit one of the signs and glean information from it. Don't worry, this info can be very easily obtained.
All you have to do is find the base colour of the sign, the MOST predominant colour on it.
Now, once you have that information the coordinates to the final geocache location can be calculated. Take the base colour and work out the value of each of the letters using the A=1, B=2, C=3 principle.
Assume N53° 53.JKL W002° 56.XYZ
J = 1st letter value + 3rd - 4th
K = 4th letter value - 1st
L = 1st letter value + 3rd
X = 3rd letter value + 4th
Y = 1st letter value + 4th
Z = 5th letter value - 4th
You should now have 6 numbers, the sum check for the 6 numbers is 21
The final geocache is a pleasant short drive/cycle away from the published coordinates and parking is available adjacent to GZ.

If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk
so we can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
