Geocache Description:

19 May 2019, 13:30 - 15:30

You keep hearing people singing the praises of GSAK, but you've downloaded it, taken a look, and it has scared you to death, right?

Don't worry, your humble presenter lived in that boat for a couple of years before finally taking the plunge to learn something about it.

What we want to do today is not to teach you everything there is to know about GSAK. That would take many more hours than we have.

But I'd like to show you a simple procedure for laying out your next caching day, whether it's a half-dozen caches, or the massive geoart between Denton and Decatur. Learning this little bit will hopefully be like the camel sticking its nose under the tent flap, and will lead you toward learning more.

We have the room for two hours, plus Q&A time, but the main presentation will only take about an hour.

Then we'll have plenty of gab time, and I might even be able to show you a couple of other tricks.

The North Denton Library has reasonably fast wifi coverage. Here's what you'll need to do to be ready to learn: Download GSAK version 8.7.0 of the software, launch it, get the most recent update (at this writing its version 8.7.1.125), and pay the fee for GSAK. You'll also want to go to geocaching.com and make sure that you are a premium member. That will be important for what you'll be taught. Then bring your computer to the event, and I'll walk you step by step through everything you'll need to know to become a master geocache run creator.

This is the presentation that will be done at GeoWoodstock. This will be the last run through for yours truly before the big day. Even since it was first done back in March, great whole sections of the presentation have had to be redone because of changes in the geocaching and GSAK world. I hope that you will find it all very useful.
