Geocache Description:

I was completing a circuit of caches in Sussex by Flatcoat Walker and nearby one of the caches I came across two discarded cache containers that had at one point in time been the cache I had just found but had since been tossed away (presumably by a muggle).  With their approval I am using the containers to place a couple of new caches.  I'm also adding to their occasional series of Memorials that you come across when wandering around this great country of ours.

The listed co-ordinates will take you to a stone pillar commemorating a member of the Canadian military from the Second World War.  The inscriptions are beginning to fade but are currently still readable.  The road that leads uphill from here is named after the man in question and I was once told by a local that the road was originally built by the Canadian Army as they needed a stronger road/bridge over the River Mole for tanks that were being repaired locally.  Not sure if that is true or not but there you go.

On the pillar count the number of lines of text on the higher of the two distinct inscriptions - call this A.

Now on the lower (and main) inscription.

Count the number of lines in the inscription - including the main heading - call this BC.

Obtain the name of the Canadian that unveiled the memorial - his first name has been abbreviated on the inscription but just take what is shown here.  Counting the number of letters in his 4 names and call them, in order, D E F and G.

The cache can be found at :

N51 B(F-D).DB(F-D-E) W000 BF.(A+D)(B+C+D+G)F

A checksum for all digits in the final GZ is 52.

The final is a short walk away but you can take the footpath/cycle path rather than needing to walk next to the road.

I've added a parking location that is a bit of a walk from the initial location - there is no closer parking that doesn't involve payment or walking along a busy road with no pavement.
