Geocache Description:

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

The cache is not hidden at the given co-ordinates, which are the approximate co-ordinates of the now demolished station. The cache can be found a short walk away.

Mellis railway station was a station in Mellis, Suffolk, England. It was opened in ABCD by the Eastern Union Railway on the Great Eastern Main Line from London to Norwich. In 186E the Eye Branch was opened and Mellis became a railway junction.

The branch line to Eye closed to passengers on F February 1931, but the line continued to serve goods traffic until the 1960s. Mellis was closed as part of the large-scale Beeching cuts on 7 November 1966, when local services between Ipswich and Norwich were withdrawn.

The line through Mellis was electrified in 1986, and carries regular passenger traffic between London's Liverpool Street station and Norwich.

The cache can be found at:

N52 AD.E(D-F)(B-A)

E001 (D-B-A)C.EF(B/C)

The container is not big enough to hold swaps or trackables

Please note: the cache is not on railway property, but care should be taken as the cache is close to a road and level crossing. There is car parking in the village.

As I'm celebrating my 50th birthday this year, I said that I would put out 50 caches/events to mark the occasion. This is 50 4 50 #12

The original calculation was wrong, but the wonderful DoggyWalker didn't let that stop her - all is well now!
