Geocache Description:

Cudlipptown Down Trail

A fairly simple trail of 20 caches, including a bonus cache, taking you on a walk around the Cudlipptown Down area of approximately 5.5 miles in length.  There are excellent paths on almost all of the route, and the section on the open moor is very easy walking without specific paths. In addition to the series there are approximately another 10 caches either directly on the route or very close to it. The full route with all caches will take approximately 4 to 5 hours.

The terrain is very varied with open moorland, pasture, a beautiful stretch along a leat and some very short road sections on rarely used country lanes, linking the route together. There are 3 recommended starting points with parking shown on CDT01, CDT03 and CDT06.

This is not being promoted specifically as family friendly, although most families would have no problems and I have left some swag in some of the caches, almost all of which are large enough for trackables. All caches have been placed to be found with hints available either in the cache title or in the hint.

There are only 6 bonus numbers to collect and each of these is repeated in a second cache.

None of the caches in this series are in the Merrivale Live Firing Range and you can attempt all caches even if the red flags are flying, which you will pass close to. However, it is possible on firing days that you could be stopped and asked for details of your route.

The weather on Dartmoor can change suddenly and unexpectedly and ALL types of weather conditions can be experienced. Please ensure that you have the correct clothing and map & compass (and know how to use them). Please do NOT rely solely on your GPS.

I would like to thank the Dartmoor National Park Authority for their kind permission to place this cache, which has been placed according to the geocaching guidelines.
