Geocache Description:

20 May 2019, 19:00 - 19:30

2019-05-20 Monday is World Metrology Day and is the day that the SI (International System of Units) is retiring the reference 1kg held somewhere in Paris and replacing it with a definition based on defining the Planck constant to be exactly 6.62607015×10−34 kg⋅m2⋅s−1 which effectively defines the kilogram in terms of the second and the metre, and it takes effect today. Not that it will affect any of us at all.

Let's meet on Shalford Green (a fancy name for a bit of scrubland!) midway between the A281 and the railway station. Parking in the railway car park is charged. The scout hut car park on the opposite side of the A281 is free. If you haven't done them, there are a handful of old caches nearby.

We can talk of caching and of the kilogram. If you are willing and able, please bring along something different that weighs "1 kg" - not a bag of sugar, I'll bring that - and we can shoot a photo of all our "heavy things". If you plan to bring a thing, please note what in your 'Will Attend' log to endeavour to avoid duplication: How about 1kg of film pots, books, screwdrivers, coins, hamsters, etc etc.

There's a pub on the N side of the railway line that could be tried afterwards if folk want food or drink.

The background image is computer generated.

A silly song (silent for first 30 seconds).
