Welcome to the VS#1594 (CITO)

My thanks to smokeypugs for allowing me to host the first Village Signs CITO and jdherriven for highlighting this lovely village sign!

We’ve been invited by Horndean Parish Council to assist with removal of Flag Iris from Catherington Pond. It's located as per the given coordinates, adjacent to the village sign in Catherington.

Please indicate your ‘will attend’ and arrive at least five minutes early for registration on our own log sheet. We will then be given instructions and a Health & Safety briefing by Calum Fenegan, the Estate and Horticulture Warden, before the exercise begins.

I’m sorry this CITO is on a weekday morning, but the organisation is not able to host us at weekends.

Parking:
There is ample free parking across the road, as per the waypoint listed on the cache page. Please allow for travel time and arrive five minutes early for CITO registration.

Where:
Meet by the Catherington village sign, as per the given coordinates.

What:
Join us removing Flag Iris and other invasive species from the community pond at Catherington. The proximity of the road means that the pond is vulnerable to water pollution through run off.

How:
Calum, the Estate and Horticulture Warden, will be there providing guidance and tools. Please wear warm clothing, sensible footwear (wellies are ideal if you have them) and your own gloves if you prefer. All other equipment will be provided. Calum did say, "Kit-wise if they have a garden fork they find easy to use as well as some gloves (the longer and more waterproof the better!) then they can bring them along, otherwise we will provide all the tools we can such as forks, rakes, waders and gloves as well as a bucket of warm water for hand washing." The event will proceed in any weather unless there are high winds or storms. There will be appropriate tasks for almost any ability level, although Calum stated the work can sometimes be quite demanding. All events are Difficulty 1, so I've raised the Terrain accordingly.

Health and Safety:
All health and safety rules apply. Please arrive on time for the briefing by Calum at 10. Children will need supervision and pets kept under control.

Any more questions, please get in touch! Thanks for reading this, and hope to see you there!

If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do. I would ask that you let Smokeypugs know first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
