About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

About Shettleston Station


Shettleston station is a generic 2 platform through station on the Glasgow to Coatbridge line. The station was opened in 1870 and seven years later was upgraded to a junction station when a branch line, just to the east, was opened towards Uddingston and Hamilton. The station had a small good yard which is now a car park. To the southwest was the Shettleston Iron works and a little further west the North British Bottle Works. To the north of the station was the Acme Works. These were access by a number of sidings west of the station.
Under the bridge to the east was the line down to Hamilton, a large set of sidings and a permanent way depot.

Today nothing much is left just the station, the permanent way depot and some rails yet to be lifted. Tesco and its car park are on the site of the iron works. Houses have been built on the site of Acme. The junction to Hamilton can still be seen from passing trains.
The station sees 4 trains an hour in each direction, eastbound to Airdrie & Edinburgh, westbound to Glasgow and beyond.

The cache -
Stealth required as this can be a very busy spot with the bus stop nearby, traffic queuing and ,if missed timed, commuters from a train.
