Geocache Description:

Ever wanted to hike up high and find a Mountain Cafe? This is the place! A tough hike or mountain bike ride rewarded with great views and a nice cafe for lunch.

Please note that the area of the cache has been recently logged off. The cache is still there. Follow the information below. But keep in mind that there are fewer trees to guide you. From the GZ look 85 meters north.

This cache was recently refreshed (July 2009) thanks to the kindness of a fellow Geocacher. Thanks for the support!

The mountains in Austria are second to none when it comes to rugged beauty and drama. My wife and I have placed this cache, named after the Travel Bug in it, because we were not able to get to one of the existing caches in Austria. Very bad weather prevented us from getting to the one we had planned to visit during our three weeks of biking and hiking in this beautiful country.

The cache we placed was done with very little preparation so I am asking that someone local adopt this cache and take care of it. It needs a cover sheet explains what Geocaching is.

The cache co-ordinates are at a bench in the Litzalm at 1334 meters (4377 feet). This alm (meadow) looks over to Germany and the Kleineishorne and Hocheiskopf Mountains. The view is fantastic and worth the effort to hike or mountain bike to this location.

To get to the cache you can approach from St. Martin b. Lofer or from Weissbach. Weissbach will be easier as you can drive up to Hintertal and park. From there you hike or ride your mountain bike to the alm. The hike from St, Martin b. Lofer is a tough three-hour climb using trails 401, 33 and 35.

Once at the co-ordinates relax and enjoy the view, have a little lunch and then look to the North. About 50 meters (160 feet) to the North of the bench you will see the forest edge. Look for the tallest tree on the left side of the trail. Just behind and to the left of this tall tree you will find a group of 7 trees that look like they are growing out of the same roots. Then just behind this interesting tree there is another tree. You will find the cache at the base of this tree.

The cache is a small plastic container with a blue lid. It contains a log book and pencil, one mini carabiner, two Geocaching key rings, an America flag pin and the travel bug named "Broken Tooth".
