Geocache Description:

This is a simple two stage multi-cache. The final is NOT located on this property. You will need to get information from the sign at the posted coordinates to get the final coordinates. Please be respectful of the rock wall.

This cache takes you to the Porter House Museum. This beautiful home is surrounded by an incredible rock wall. The rock wall was crafted by Bert Porter from unusual rocks, gemstones and fossils that he gathered from his trips throughout North and South America. Some of the rocks came from local quarries. The wall was built in the 1940's and took 6 years to build. It contains agates, jasper, onyx, amethyst, geodes, rose quartz, calcite, chalcedony, mica schist, sandstone, limestone, copper ore, iron ore, galena, and petrified wood, as well as many others. He also has some unique rocks in his backyard garden area. During daylight hours you may explore the grounds, the rocks on the inside of the wall are more impressive than those on the outside. There is also a Lilypond you can view in the back

Bert also had an interest in butterflies and photography. He collected butterflies during his trips and created crafts from butterfly wings and natural materials to sell. His wife Grace was interested in music and was involved in the women's suffrage movement.

For more information, grab a brochure next to the Porter House Museum sign. You can also take a tour of the house and grounds from May through October. Go to https://www.porterhousemuseum.org/ for exact dates and hours.
