Lamswaarde, ook wel ’t Heilig Land genoemd, is een dorp in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
Het dorp telt, incl. Kruispolder, tegen de 900 inwoners. Sinds de gemeentelijke herindeling van 1 januari 2003 maakt Lamswaarde deel uit van de gemeente Hulst. Voor die tijd was Lamswaarde altijd een deel van de gemeente Hontenisse.
Het eerste Lamswaarde ontstond al in 1242 als uithof van de Vlaamse Cisterciënzer Abdij van Baudelo. Deze uithof, met een kapel, werd gedurende de 80-jarige oorlog, eind 16e eeuw, verwoest. Na 1615, toen de Oostvogelpolder herdijkt, ontwikkelde zich bij deze locatie het huidige Lamswaarde. De Boudeloodijk herinnert nog aan de Middeleeuwse tijd. Aan deze tijd heeft het -grotendeels katholieke- Lamswaarde ook haar bijnaam Het Heilig Land te danken.
In 1668 werd in ons dorp een schuurkerk gebouwd, ongeveer op de plek waar nu de pastorie staat. In 1845 waren er klachten over het feit dat het kerkje veel te klein was, daar ‘menigeen niet in staat is om te knielen en er altijd nog zeer velen in de openen lucht moeten blijven’. In 1854 kwam er een nieuwe pastorie, maar pas in 1871 was er genoeg geld ingezameld en begon de bouw van de huidige Heilige Corneliuskerk, die in 1873 door de Deken van Hulst werd ingewijd.
In 1840 had Lamswaarde 81 huizen met 405 inwoners.
Tegenwoordig heeft Lamswaarde (incl. de Kruispolder) dik 250 huizen met bijna 900 inwoners.
Het rijke verenigingsleven zorgt voor veel vertier in het gezellige dorp. Voor het relatief kleine dorp zijn er veel faciliteiten. Zoals een school met peuterspeelzaal, een multifunctioneel dorpshuis, golfbaan, restaurant, een sportveld, speeltuintje, dorpscafé en nog veel meer….
En natuurlijk de voorziening waar je deze cache zult vinden: de Minibieb van Lonny, waar je boeken kunt lenen of waar je boeken naartoe kunt brengen. Het kastje staat buiten dus je kunt er altijd bij. Een fijn initiatief om boeken te laten rouleren en delen met elkaar en te zorgen voor een extra stukje verbinding in het dorp. Voel je vrij om een boek uit de Minibieb mee te nemen als je de cache gevonden hebt. Je mag natuurlijk ook een boek meebrengen en achterlaten.
Lamswaarde ligt op 3 km van de Westerschelde. Je kunt er prachtig wandelen en fietsen. Genieten van de rust en de mooie omgeving. Met schitterende uitzichten op het water waar grote schepen af en aan varen naar de wereldhaven van Antwerpen.
In Antwerpen sta je binnen een half uur. Lamswaarde ligt op 2 km afstand van Kuitaart. Waar de authentieke molen Vogelzicht te bewonderen is. Op 6 km afstand ligt Kloosterzande, met o.a een grote supermarkt. Vestingstadje Hulst ligt op 8 km afstand. Een heel centraal gelegen dorp dus :-).

Lamswaarde, also known as ‘t Heilig Land (the Holy Land), is a village in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
The village counts, incl. Kruispolder, about 900 inhabitants. Since the municipalreorganization of 1 January 2003, Lamswaarde has been part of the municipality of Hulst. Before that time, Lamswaarde was always a part of the municipality of Hontenisse.
The first Lamswaarde was already founded in 1242 as the court of the Flemish Cistercian Abbey of Baudelo. This court, with a chapel, was destroyed during the 80-year war, at the end of the 16th century. After 1615, when the Oostvogelpolder regrouped, the current Lamswaarde developed at this location. The Boudeloodijk still reminds of the Medieval time. At this time the - largely Catholic - Lamswaarde also owes its nickname The Holy Land.
In 1668 a barnchurch was built in our village, about where the presbytery now is located. In 1845 there were complaints about the fact that the church was much too small, because 'many people are not able to kneel and there are always very many who have to stay in the open air'. In 1854 there was a new presbytery, but it was not until 1871 that enough money was collected and the construction of the present Saint Cornelius church started, which was inaugurated in 1873 by the Dean of Hulst.

And of course the facility where you will find this cache: the Minibieb of Lonny, where you can borrow books or where you can bring books. The box is outside so you can always be there. A nice initiative to rotate books and share with each other and to provide an extra piece of connection in the village. Feel free to bring a book from the Minibieb when you have found the cache. You can of course also bring a book and leave it behind.
Lamswaarde is 3 km from the Westerschelde. You can walk and cycle beautifully. Enjoy the peace and the beautiful surroundings. With magnificent views of the water where large ships sail to and from the world port of Antwerp.
In Antwerp you are within half an hour drive. Lamswaarde is 2 km away from Kuitaart. You’ll find an authentic windmill there. Kloosterzande, with a large supermarket, is 6 km away. Fortresstown Hulst is 8 km away. A very central village so :-).
