About Rayners Lane Station


Rayners Lane tube station was opened as Rayners Lane Halt on 26 May 1906 as part of the Metropolitan Railway. The track it was placed on was formerly part of the Harrow and Uxbridge Railway, which had been absorbed into the Met during the previous year.

At the time of construction, there was no urban area around the station, and the only road nearby was Rayners Lane (occasionally spelt Rayner's Lane) which had been renamed from Bourne Lane during the 19th century after the local farm owners at the time.

Indeed, if you look at the current maps, there would appear to be two different Rayners Lanes near to each other - at some point the connecting road between the two was renamed to Alexandra Avenue. The station in effect gave the area a name, which had previously simply been fields.

In addition to the Metropolitan Railway, the station also served the District Line between 1 March 1910 and 23 October 1933 when that service was replaced by the Piccadilly Line. Around this time, the station building was replaced by the current design by Charles Holden and Reginald Uren.

Now for the geocache: You are looking for a magnetic micro. The style of hide is entirely inspired by Sludgebucket's Tram SideTracked caches in Croydon, so if you've done a couple of those then you'll likely have a bit of an advantage.
