Geocache Description:

Village signs is a series of caches based on the ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (normally on the village green!).

The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably stated in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!

The following is taken from Wikipedia, St Margaret, South Elmham is a village and civil parish in the Waveney district of Suffolk in eastern England. Located south-west of Bungay, in 2010 its population was 100. Of the twelve parishes in the Saints, St Margaret is one of only three proper villages, and is the largest of the South Elmhams.

The following is taken from the Village website. St Margaret is mainly situated on either side of the C950 - the Halesworth to Homersfield road. The centre of the village is clusted around one of a selection of grazing Greens. Fortunately volunteers mow the Green allowing children to play and this is also the site of the Annual Village BBQ. Like St Cross, most employment is found in the surrounding towns of Bungay, Halesworth and Harleston which are all approximately five to six miles away.

This cache is a simple 2 stage multi. I was unable to place a traditional here because of a very neat cache in close proximity to the village sign. Try it if you haven't already. Parking is available at The Village Hall. The sign and final location are located a short walk away, the final on a public footpath.

What year can you find on the sign? Convert the year to ABCD to find the final co-ordinates.

The cache can be found at

N52 24 A (D-A-A) A

E001 24 (C-D) (C-A) (C+C-A-B)

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. I would just ask that you let Smokeypugs know first so they can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
